To do so, Apple plans to expand its supply chain for manufacturing products in India and is in talks with suppliers to ramp up production by early next year. Apple’s iPhone assembler, Foxconn, is preparing to manufacture Beats headphones in India and plans to manufacture AirPods are in the pipeline, Nikkei Asia reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Further, Luxshare Precision Industry and its subsidiaries – which already manufacture AirPods in Vietnam and China – are set to help Apple assemble AirPods in India. However, Luxshare will focus more on Vietnamese AirPods operations and may gradually start production in India, the report said.
Foxconn declined to comment, and Apple and Luxshare did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
India could be a key production base for Apple
Following recent revelations The iPhone 14 series is already being assembled in India, moving production of AirPods and Beats to the country will increase Apple’s product presence in that country. However, the report did not reveal the specific patterns that India will see in production.
Apple is now establishing India as a key production base, planning exports to regions such as Europe. In contrast, earlier manufacturing in India focused on feeding the enormous local market.
