Seen on October 3 Jio quietly launched its first laptop In India, Geo Book, at India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022. This pioneering step by Jio to enter the laptop space is a key development in the company’s portfolio. Jio has partnered with Qualcomm and Microsoft to make the book, which is ‘Made in India’. We talked about the Jio Book price in India and its availability details. Also got a chance to get hands on unit. This Rs. 20,000 Jio laptop here.

Jio has designed its first laptop with a compact minimalistic design language: it is built with an ABS plastic chassis with metallic hinges. The smooth, rubberized, matte finish surface displays the shiny Jio logo. It is a flat cover with curved edges.

The left side houses the proprietary charging port, a USB Type-A socket and a full-sized HDMI port. On the right spine, you’ll find a microSD card slot, another USB Type-A port, and a 3.5mm audio port. The laptop rests on four rubber pads and has two cutouts for better ventilation inside the system.

Lifting the lid, you’ll see an 11.6-inch HD screen with a resolution of 1366×768 pixels with chunky bezels around the display, a 2MP webcam on top and Jio Book branding on the bottom. Under the keys, there are several indicators: power, capslock on/off, number lock and dual microphone (right – left).

It has a full-sized keyboard, minus the number keys, with good spacing between the non-backlit keys. The first row has the Esc key on the left, the function keys in the middle and the power button on the right. As this device runs on Jio’s in-house OS, there is a ‘Jio Key’ instead of a traditional Windows key. Underneath the keyboard, you get a decent-sized trackpad aligned in the middle.

Under the hood, the Jio Book draws power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 chipset and the Adreno 610 GPU takes care of the graphical needs. A 55.1 to 60 AH battery powers the lights for up to eight hours on a single charge. It packs 2GB of LPDDR4x RAM with 32GB of eMMC storage, expandable via microSD card.

You get a dual-speaker setup and a dual-integrated mic on the Jio Book. For connectivity, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and 4G. The laptop comes pre-loaded with Jio Cloud PC apps, Microsoft Office, Outlook, YouTube application and Microsoft Ad Browser.

The Jio Book laptop is currently available on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) for Rs. 19,500 only. Sadly, only government employees can afford this device at the moment. Jio is still tight-lipped about its plans to bring this pocket-friendly laptop to the general public.
