Gujarat Giants Women (GUJ-W) will take on Mumbai Indians Women (MI-W) in the opening game of WPL 2023 on Saturday (March 4) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. The Giants are owned by the Adani Group and a total of 18 players were picked in the auction held last month. Beth Mooney was chosen as the captain while Indian all-rounder Sneha Rana was chosen as the vice-captain. Mumbai Indians is a women’s team owned by IndiaWin Sports, the owner of the men’s team in the Indian Premier League. 18 players were also selected in the player auction held in February. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur has been chosen as the captain of the team.
The Women’s Premier League is nothing less than a dream come true for cricket fans as well as players across the globe. The league finally got underway on Saturday and many comparisons will be drawn with the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League. When the IPL started, it had eight teams and T20 cricket was taking baby steps. However, this time around, T20 cricket has emerged as a shark which is hoping to devour other formats of the game.
