What is the Government Services feature in Truecaller app?
Provides users with a digital government directory Truecaller App access to helplines, police departments, embassies, educational institutions, hospitals and other important departments in 23 states and union territories. “Our endeavor is to protect people from widespread fraud by government officials which leads to scams and frauds. With this feature, we believe that citizens can easily reach the right authorities when needed,” added Mishra.
Why is the new Truecaller feature important?
One of the most common phone scams, according to Truecaller, which it says it has learned from interactions with Internet users and related stakeholders, involves impersonating government officials. The company said it is creating a certified government contact directory as part of efforts to build trust in communication and protect its customers from fraud and scams. Users will see a green background and a blue tick, which means the number has been checked.
Truecaller is working with various government departments to add more contacts to the directory. Based on feedback from users, the next step is to add contacts at the district and municipal levels.
The new activity comes a week after the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) issued a cross-industry consultation paper on developing a local caller ID system.
