Steve Smith is Australia’s captain in the Ahmedabad Test! Cummins has not yet returned

IND vs AUS 4th Test: The final and deciding Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 will be played in Ahmedabad from March 9. The start of this Test is only three days away, but so far Australia’s regular captain Pat Cummins has not returned to India. No update has been revealed that he is coming to India. In such a situation, only Steve Smith is likely to lead Australia in the next Test as well.

Pat Cummins returned to Australia only after the first two matches of this four-match Test series. Had to return home due to illness of family members. He was also not available for the indoor test. In such circumstances, Cricket Australia handed over the captaincy to Steve Smith.

In the absence of Pat Cummins, Smith captained India very aggressively and made a strong comeback in the series by leading his team to win the indoor Test. Now perhaps the onus will be on him to level the series in the Test in Ahmedabad.

Smith captained Australia in 37 Tests
Steve Smith has good experience in captaincy. Between 2014 and 2018, he captained the Australian team. But in 2018, he had to resign from the captaincy due to a ball tampering case. After that, the chance of captaincy came in a few occasions in between. So far this player has captained the Australian team in 37 Test matches. Here he led his team in 21 matches while he faced defeat in 10 matches. Remaining 6 matches were drawn.

India’s most successful foreign captain of the last decade
In India too, he became the most successful captain of visiting teams. In the last decade, the Indian team lost only three Tests, two of which were captained by Steve Smith. In 2017 too, he gave the Indian team a one-sided defeat in the Pune Test.
