Paytm went down in India as many users reported experiencing issues with the app on New Year’s Eve. Paytm users on Saturday faced problems making UPI payments to merchants, with many complaining that they were unable to transfer funds. This is likely due to server issues at Paytm in the pre-midnight hours. According to DownDetector.in, around 500 people reported issues with the Paytm app around 7:30 p.m. Since then, the app seems to be coming back online as the reports have died down.
It is currently unclear why Paytm experienced the outage, but it could be a server-level issue. UPI (Unified Payments Interface), a payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India, is a way to transfer funds instantly in real time. Paytm is one of the many payment apps in India that uses UPI as a method for people to transfer money to each other.
