Telecom Trends in 2023

Airtel and Jio 5G plans

Airtel and Jio are actively rolling out 5G network in the country with high-speed mobile services already available in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and other cities. However, the two telecom networks are yet to announce 5G data plans as they claim that the pack details will be revealed when the 5G network becomes available pan-India. We can probably expect 5G data plans to be revealed in 2023.

Recent reports have suggested Airtel and Jio 5G The plans will be similar to the existing 4G tariffs. India is a price-sensitive market and high 5G plan prices could prove counterproductive so this is seen as an opportunity to attract more users.

More cities will get 5G services in 2023

5G is currently expanding to major metro cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and more. By 2023, we can expect the network to be available in more cities. Jio is expected to complete the network across India by the end of 2023. Airtel says it will complete the rollout by March 2024.

BSNL 4G and 5G Launch

Another major expected telecom trend 2023 Launch of BSNL 4G and 5G networks. Recent reports suggest (but not sure) that BSNL 4G will be available to customers from January 2023 onwards. BSNL has received permission to conduct 4G trials in India and since then, the telecom has been conducting trials in collaboration with TCS across the country. BSNL has already upgraded its infrastructure for 4G in metro cities.

On the other hand, Communication Minister Ashwini Vaishnav confirmed that BSNL 5G network will be operational from August 2023. In some cases, This will be a simultaneous expansion, allowing the public sector telco to reach out to the private sector.

Vi 5G Launch

Vodafone Idea estimates Launch of 5G services in India soon. However, the telecom giant has not revealed any specific timeline for this. It has upgraded its 4G network architecture and other techniques such as dynamic spectrum reforming (DSR) and MIMO. “Our network is very much 5G ready. When the 5G auction happens, we will be able to launch 5G. However, India’s 5G use cases need to be developed. India is unique and some global use cases may not be relevant. Vodafone Idea MD and CEO Ravinder Tucker said.

More data usage in 5G

5G will be a huge upgrade over the existing 4G network in terms of speed and latency. 5G consumes more data per second compared to 4G. For example, if you do a speed test to check the 5G network, around 1GB/1.5GB of data will be consumed in just two tests (at least on Airtel’s network). That means telecom networks will have to offer more data benefits when they unveil 5G plans.

Jio Phone 5G
