IPL New Rules: The 16th season of IPL has started. The first match of the season took place on Friday night. This match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings started with new rules. In this match, the play-11 was shared after the toss. Also used an impact player and also used the rule of taking DRS on wide and no-ball.
Ahmedabad Narendra Modi As part of IPL 2023, Gujarat Titans won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first match being held at the stadium. After the toss, the playing-11 of both the teams came out. Along with this playing-11, 5-5 substitute players were also included in the list. This is the first time that Play-11 has partnered after the toss. Earlier in IPL and international cricket there was a rule to select the playing-11 before the toss.
DRS taken on no ball and wide
Until now, DRS was used only for out or not out decisions in cricket. But in IPL 2023, teams will now be able to take DRS even on wide and no ball decisions by the umpire. This rule was taken advantage of in the first match itself. In the 14th over of Gujarat’s batting, Rajvardhan Hungergakar threw a full toss. Shubman Gill hit a four on this ball and took a review. Gill felt that this ball was too high and in that case it should be given a no ball. The Gujarat team lost this review as the height of the ball was good. Similarly, a review was also taken on the wide ball in the 18th over of this innings.
Chennai became the first team to use an impact player
Before the start of the second innings, Chennai Super Kings used the impact player rule. Bowler Tushar Deshpande has been fielded in place of Ambati Rayudu. Similarly, when Gujarat Titans lost their first wicket in the form of Wriddhiman Saha, Sai Sudarshan came in to bat at number three in place of Kane Williamson.
This is a new rule for the world of cricket. Under this rule, teams can replace one of their players with another player in the middle of a match. A team is allowed to bring only one impact player in a match. At the time of the toss, the captain names five substitute players along with the playing-11 and one of these players can be used as an impact player.
