Former Union Minister Satyavrat Mukherjee passed away at the age of 91

 

Satyabrata Mookherjee Death: Former Union Minister and BJP leader Satyavrat Mukherjee has passed away at the age of 91. He breathed his last in the old age home of Ballygunge (Calcutta). Satyavrat Mukherjee was the Union Minister of State during the tenure of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Along with this, Mukherjee was also the former Additional Solicitor General (ASG) of India.

Satyavrat Mukherjee was born on 8 May 1932 in Sylhet, Assam (now Bangladesh). He got his education from Calcutta University. Thereafter, Mukherjee did his Bar-at-Law from The Honorable Society of Lincoln’s Inn and did further studies at the Regent Street Polytechnic in London.

Entry into politics in 1999

He started his political career in 1999 from Krishnanagar Lok Sabha constituency. Mukherjee won the election on a BJP ticket. During his Lok Sabha tenure, he served as Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers from September 2000 to June 2002 and later for Commerce and Industry from July 2002 to October 2003.

Mukherjee was running ill for the past several years

Please tell that Satyabrata Mukherjee used to go to the High Court regularly till the age of 87 years. He used to keep an eye on the activities of the party, but due to his growing age, he had gone away from everything for the last three years. He was admitted to the hospital several times for treatment. Leader of Opposition in the state Subhendu Adhikari has expressed grief over the demise of the veteran leader.

Subhendu Adhikari wrote on Twitter, “I am saddened by the passing away of former Bengal BJP President Satyavraj Mukherjee… Popularly known as Jollu Babu, he was an MP and minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government. Condolences to his family members and friends Condolences. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Om Shanti.”
