Another trouble for BCCI, the indoor pitch is also in danger of getting an ‘average’ rating

Indoor pitch: The third match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is being played at the Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. The pitch here has got everyone together. The first day saw a lot of twists and turns on the pitch, which posed a threat to Team India and the Indian team was bowled out for just 109 runs in their first innings. An indoor pitch like Nagpur and Delhi can also be given an ‘Average’ rating by the ICC.

A total of 14 wickets fell on the first day due to a turn in the pitch. As the Indian team was bowled out, Australia also went into bat at the end of the day and scored 156 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. However, nothing is clear yet, but ICC match referee Chris Bord may take action on the indoor pitch. According to media reports, the pitches in Nagpur and Delhi had earlier been rated ‘average’ by the ICC.

Why does an indoor pitch get an ‘average’ rating?

On the first day of this match, Team India was bowled out for just 109 runs, and Australia, who went into bat after that, lost a total of 4 wickets at the end of the day. A total of 14 wickets fell on the first day.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon took a turn of 8.3 degrees. It was the first day’s match and there were many twists and turns on the first day.

Just as the two Test matches in Nagpur and Delhi ended in two days, this match here too is expected to end in three days.

It makes test cricket a mockery

About the pitch, former Indian cricketer Dilip Vengsarkar told PTI, “If you want to watch good cricket, the pitch makes the difference. You need to have wickets with equal bounce so that both batsmen and bowlers get equal chances. If the ball starts spinning with uneven bounce on the first day and session itself, it will make a mockery of Test cricket.”

Significantly, the match was shifted from Dharamsala to Indoors. A pitch expert told PTI on condition of anonymity, “It takes at least a month to prepare a Test wicket. The pitch also needs rest. In this case, there is not even two weeks between the Ranji Trophy semifinal and this match. Earlier, India vs New Zealand ODI was played here last month.
