Tata Tiago Design, Specifications

The Tata Tiago EV is based on the Tata Tiago hatchback, which has been on sale in India since 2016. The ICE-powered hatchback now gets an electric powertrain and joins Tata’s successful EV line-up. The Tiago EV is a value-for-money proposition that aims to give people the compact and easy-to-use benefits of a hatchback with an economical EV powertrain.

The Tata Tiago EV is similar to the existing ICE-powered Tata Tiago hatchback. But the design has been refreshed with the inclusion of a blacked-out nose and a redesigned air dam with Tata’s signature tri-arrow pattern design. Electric blue accents have also been added to bring it up to speed with other Tata EVs. The Tiago EV features a black contrasting roof, blacked-out ORVMs, door handles and rear spoiler elements and hence sports a sporty stance. The wheels have also been updated with new highlight elements on a wind tunnel tested aerodynamic design.

The Tata Tiago EV is equipped with Tata’s Ziptron technology and gets two battery pack options. The smaller battery pack is rated at 19.4kWh, while the larger battery pack measures 24kWh. Equipped with a 19.4kWh battery pack, the Tata Tiago EV is expected to deliver a range of 250km in the estimated MIDC test cycle range. According to MIDC the bigger battery pack is good for a range of 315km. The Tiago EV powertrain (battery and motor) is IP67 certified and comes with an 8-year/1.6 lakh km warranty.

According to Tata, the Tiago EV runs on a frugal and reliable Ziptron powertrain that accelerates from standstill to 60kmph in just 5.7 seconds. The Tiago EV also gets four charging options – 15A home socket, 3.3kW AC home charger, 7.2kWh AC home charger and DC fast charger. A 7.2kW fast charger allows the Tiago EV to be fully charged in just 3 hours and 36 minutes, while a DC charger can juice it from 10 to 80 percent in just 57 minutes.

As far as features are concerned, the Tata Tiago EV is loaded with multi-level regenerative braking, cruise control and sports mode as we expected earlier. The Tata White Leatherette also gets premium features like perforated seats, auto climate control, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, power windows, cooled glove box, push button start stop, rear wash wipes and defogger, fog lamps, LED DRLs, projector. Harman sourced touchscreen infotainment system with headlamps, digital instrument cluster, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and 8 speaker system.

The Tiago EV also gets segment-first connected car technology with Tata’s ZConect technology enabling remote AC control, vehicle tracking and geofencing, charging station locator, drive data analytics and more. Tata will also offer smartwatch integration. The Tiago EV is based on a 4-star rated platform and gets airbags, ABS, EBD, rear parking camera and sensors.
